One joint issue for January-June 2016, of the Journal of Indian School of Political Economy was published during the year.

The joint issue of the journal of the School for January – June 2016, contains five research papers and the material for documentation on High Level Expert Group’s Report on Universal Health Coverage for India, Instituted by Planning Commission of India, submitted to the Planning Commission of India, 2011, National Urban Housing and Habitat Policy 2007, Government of India, Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation.

The joint issue of the Journal for July-December, 2016, based on the study carried out a few years ago by ISPE, of Education in Primary Schools Conducted by Pune Municipal Corporation, is ready to go to the press.

Material for inclusion in the January-March 2017 issue of the Journal, based on the papers presented at the Symposium on the Recent Changes in the Methodology of Estimation of India’s GDP, organised by the School, is being finalised for publication. The issue will include papers by Dr. T.C. A. Anant, Chief Statistician of India, Dr. Mahendra Dev, Director, IGIDR, Dr. G.C. Manna, Director General, Central Statistics Office, Dr. S. L. 2. Arthabodh Patrika

Launched in 1998, ‘Arthabodhpatrika’, the Marathi monthly of the School became a monthly publication with effect from 1 April 2003. During the period under review, in all 12 issues were published. The School organised on January 21, 2017, a Symposium on the Recent Changes in the Methodology of the Estimation of India’s GDP, which has been a subject of considerable public interest and debate. The Symposium was held at Hotel Deccan Rendezvous, Banquet Hall, 1202/3 Apte Road, Shivaji Nagar, Near Mahatma Phule Musium Pune – 411004.

The event is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Gangadhar Darbha and is funded, in part, out of a donation received by Indian School of Political Economy for the purpose. A well-wisher of the School, Dr. Darbha was a brilliant young economist of great potential and promise. He had joined the Reserve Bank of India as Advisor, just before his untimely demise. Before that he was Executive Director at Nomura Securites. He worked as a member of the Committee of Financial Benchmarks and the Committee on Monetary Policy Framework, set up by the Reserve Bank of India. 5. Fellowship:

Advertisements were inserted in the issues of the JISPE and on our Website calling for applications for grant of fellowship. However, the proposals received were either incomplete or not suitable to consider for fellowship. Fresh advertisement calling for applications will be issued during the year 2015-16.

6. Research Project on Greenfield Urban Development in India

The Azim Premji University, Bengaluru has extended financial Support to the research Project titled, “City as Infrastructure? – Private and Greenfield Urban Development in India”. Two of the Affiliate Fellows viz. Dr. Sharadini Rath and Dr. Ashima Sood have been chosen to be Principal Investigators by the funding agency. The Project has been officially launched with effect from 1 April 2016. Both the researchers made a presentation based on the preliminary analysis of secondary statistics, during the annual Prof. V. M. Dandekar Memorial Seminar organized on 16 and 17 December 2016. The field research associated with the Project is in progress.

8. Meetings:

The Annual Meeting of the Council was held on 25th of June 2016.

Four meetings of the Executive Committee were held during the period from 1st April 2016 to 31st March 2017.

9. Library:

The total number of books in the Library is 14,122 and that of documents is 5,265. During the year under report, 34 books were added to the stock, of which 29 books were purchased, 5 books were received as gifts, 54 documents were added to the stock. Out of the additions, 30 were regular documents, and 2 documents were received as gift; 24 CD downloaded at ISPE.

An amount of Rs.33,218/- was spent on purchase of books. In addition, an amount of Rs. 14,370/- was spent as subscription towards periodicals and newspapers.

During the year under review, 10 persons/students took the advantage of the reference material and reading facilities provided in the Library.

10. WEBSITE

The School has its own Website ispepune.org.in. The website contains back issues of the Journal of Indian School of Political Economy from the year 1989 onwards as also that of Arthabodhpatrika from January 2007 onwards. Digitisation for the volumes of the Journal for the years from 1989 to 1999, has been completed and uploaded it on the web site. One can also search for the Books in the Library of the School on the website. We taking steps to make the website of the School more dynamic, to upload on it the profiles of the council members as well as affiliate fellows of the School, the School’s current and upcoming activities. The website be shortly enabled to directly accept online subscriptions for the Journal and Arthabodhpatrika.

11. Computer Equipment, Soft wares and Data Bases:

The School has 9 PCs {Two Core i3, One Assembled Computer, One Lenovo, Two Dell PCs, One Zenith Pentium 4, One Compaq Pentium III, One PCs upgraded to Pentium 4, one Dot Matrix Printer, one Canon Copier-cum-Scanner-cum-Printer, Sharp Copier-cum-Printer, Canon LIDE Scanner}

The School has acquired Devnagari soft-wares, ‘Leap Office’ and ‘Akruti’ Shreelipi 7.4, as well as MS Window 7, Office 2003, Windows 98 and Windows XP (HE), SPSS 12, E-Views 5 and Tally 9 Soft-wares updated version, one camera Logitech c170, one Headphone Logitech. H-150, 6th Economic Census Data.

All the PCs are connected to the Internet through BSNL Broad Band while VSNL dial-up account is being used for receiving and sending emails. The facility of Internet and e-mail is being extensively used for searching material for the Journal of Indian School of Political Economy and Arthabodh Patrika and for receiving papers and referees’ reports and correspondence with authors of articles for the Journal.
